Texas Wildfires Disaster Relief

More than 3.6 million acres in Texas have been scorched by wildfires since November. The past days have brought this news to our own doorstep, seeing the number of homes destroyed in our region nearing 2,000. More than 1,200 firefighters are currently battling the multiple blazes. This includes members of local departments as well as those coming from Utah, California, Arizona, and Oregon. Thousands have been forced from their homes, and four individuals have tragically lost their lives.

The response from area churches has been incredible, and Woodlands Church leaders and volunteers were some of the first on the scene at Magnolia High School on Labor Day to aid firefighters and those displaced. This situation changes every hour, but here is how you can help:

1. Pray – for the affected families, for firefighters, for the coordination of the relief effort;

2. Stay Tuned—We will publish “real time” information on The City, including specific needs we can confirm. Watch for messages from Disaster Relief.

3. Give – Needs are very fluid, and your financial gifts can give the flexibility we need to provide specifically what is necessary as the situation changes, whether food resources, truck loads of water, or gift cards to families who’ve suffered the loss of homes.

    I was at Magnolia Fire Dept around 3PM today and they told me their greatest need is people.  Their most urgent need is to get food, water, and supplies to the firemen in Grimes County.  If you show up at the Magnolia Fire Dept. tomorrow, they can put you to work or find you something to do to help somewhere else.
