Day 24 // Sayings of the Wise

Proverbs 24

1 Don’t envy evil people

or desire their company.

2 For their hearts plot violence,

and their words always stir up trouble.

3 A house is built by wisdom

and becomes strong through good sense.

4 Through knowledge its rooms are filled

with all sorts of precious riches and valuables.

5 The wise are mightier than the strong,

and those with knowledge grow stronger and stronger.

6 So don’t go to war without wise guidance;

victory depends on having many advisers.

What verse in Proverbs 24 caught your attention today?

  • JERI

17 Don’t rejoice when your enemies fall; don’t be happy when they stumble.

18 For the Lord will be displeased with you and will turn his anger away from them.
I have to watch my movtive and intentions when I do this even if it is just a mental thought. Anger adn Resentments are my greatest enemy. God help me rejoice in people and their actions of good today. Help me see the positive in people even the ones that I have been scorned by. Thank you Jesus for making me a better person.

A few verses really hit close to my heart this morning…I will focus on verse 24:11. “Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to die, save them as they stagger to their death.” I am so excited about a friend of mine who I was about ready to give up on, because of her ungodly negative ways but then I decided to continue showing love to her in hopes she could and would see that the ways of the Lord are the best path to follow. I am so glad that I didnt give up on her…I am hearing sweet words coming from her and a newly found attitude. She so happily told me yesterday that a friend of hers asked her to pray for her…..i am so glad that your messages at church encourage us to not give up on others….there was a message not to long ago where we were asked if we had anyone in our lives who we could encourage saving; that kept repeating in my mind….that message encouraged me to keep showing my friend love. I know she will be saved.

There were a lot of verses that caught my attention today but I especially liked Verse 3: A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through common sense.

When things happen in my life I want to know the right thing to do next and with Gods’s wisdom comes common sense and our relationships grow in the right direction building them up on a strong foundation.

  • Carol Menville

verse 1 & 2 don’t desire the company of evil because their words stir up trouble. There is one in my family that fits this. She seems to live to stir up trouble. I have to pray for her and I don’t like passing judgment on her, but I keep seeing time and time again how she stirs up trouble. I do not have any desire for her company but I worry about my one child spending time with her. I pray that God will protect my daughter and somehow will reach the one that likes to stir up trouble and change her too.

There’s alot of good verses, this one just hits me because of what is going on in my life at the present.

  • Rebecca Hendricks

Verse 26-An honest answer is like a kiss of friendship. Love it!

  • Lance Gloyer

verse 16- The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked.

  • Kelly

    Good Morning,

    I’m with Lance…

16 The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked.
17 Don’t rejoice when your enemies fall; don’t be happy when they stumble.

Although generally my heart is in the right place, I stumble over and over again and get discouraged; this verse is just one more reminder that we are ‘allowed’ to stumble – we just need to get ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and try again :)

In the same sense, it is good to remember the feelings we suffer when we fall and are trying to get up again when someone we know, whether we ‘like’ them or not, to lend a helping hand.

    Happy Wednesday all!

    Proverbs 24:29

I am sure we all, at some point, have wanted to get pay back on someone that has done us wrong. But, as we read today, this is not the right then to do.

I know that I should forgive all that sin against me as Jesus Christ forgave me of my sins by dying on the cross.

Proverbs 24-24 It speaks to me about what is going on across the world today. The corrupt governments and leaders are being denounced. It reminds me that God is still there for those who believe in him.

  • Mphatso Khoza

    Hello Kerry,

    Proverbs 24:33,34
A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest – then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.

This is remindful of all the other wise sayings out there about avoiding procrastination – “procrastination is the thief of time”, “make hay while the sun shines”, “dont put off for tomorrow, what can be done today”.

May God help me to not be a procrastinator, particularly when it comes to doing the things that he presses upon my heart.

  • Candi DeJesus

I agree that verse 16 & 17 are powerful and will speak to me today and many more days to follow.

17 Don’t fret because of evildoers; don’t envy the wicked

I know this is the verse that God wanted me to hear. He wanted me to hear this yesterday but I was too busy fretting to follow his will.
Thank you for this challenge and the opportunity to get God’s word into my life so easily.
    God Bless this ministry forever!
    Have an awesome day!

    Hello Pastor Kerry,
I didn’t understand Prov 24:33-34 at first, but now, after reading M Khoza’s comment,I do. I am a procrastinator also. I have struggled with it a lot. I’m sure I have missed out on opportunities because of it, but I will continue to pray for God’s help with this.
Also,Proverbs 24:10 caught my attention and seemed to “stab me like a knife”. I have felt under pressure for a long time while trying to help my spouse run our Business. I think maybe my strength IS too small due to my many health problems. If that is it, it makes me sad and confirms what I have thought.
I liked Proverbs 24:13-14 because wisdom is sweet. I LOVE learning. As long as I continue to seek it out and find it, then I will have a bright future and my hopes won’t be cut short.

  • Jenn B.

“13 My child, eat honey, for it is good, and the honeycomb is sweet to the taste.
14 In the same way, wisdom is sweet to your soul. If you find it, you will have a bright future, and your hopes will not be cut short. ”

I love that things like this [P31] can motivate us and challange us to be wiser and to learn more about the word of God.
It give us new perspective on the things that we do, like taking a little time from our days to “eat some sweet honey” and help keep us on the course that the Lord wants for us. :)

    Thank You!

  • Karrie

Proverbs 24:16 The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. But one disaster will overthrow the wicked.

This verse spoke very loudly to me. It is so true because I have witnessed my mother go through more heartache and loss than any other person I know from losing both parents at 21 years of age then marrying for better or worse to my father and he walking out on all of us, and my mother picking her bible up everyday and taking us to church no matter what. Then years later marrying once again only to have more heartache of marrying an “undercover drug addict” whose true colors showed through much too late and lost their home and another divorce. She survived once again calling on the only One that could pull her through. Then losing her sister very suddenly and leaving behind so many people to be taken care of. And then only 10 months later her last living immediate family member her big brother who had battled the same illness of her sister. Thankfully, she had three daughters whom she raised to be just like her and to love the Lord and praise his name through good and bad. She is an amazing women who has endured so many heartaches and has always trusted in God always! I am so thankful that I could witness her go through all of that and still call on God. That is why I have the relationship that I have with God today! Thanks mom! and Thank you Jesus!!!!!!!!

  • Diane

Verses 33 & 34 “a little sleep a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest; and poverty will come upon you like a bandit…..”

Before I was even saved, I picked up a Gideon’s Bible in a motel room, and just opened it, not especially looking for anything, and this is, I believe, the first verse I’d ever read on my own. It has stuck with me for almost 40 years, and encouraged me to read more, and get to know my Lord, who was wanting to share so much more wisdom with me – now I can’t get enough!!
    Blessings!

  • Kelly

I would say vs 1 and 19. It reminds me not to go with the way of the world and to conform to it, but to renew my mind instead.

  • Shivana Khoza

Karrie – Thank you for sharing about your mom and the everlasting impact she has on you and your sisters through her example of her dependence on Jesus. May God continue to bless you all. Her reward is in heaven, for leading her children to develop that relationship with our Lord.

  • Paula Weinstock

Im a little behind on the P31 challenge since im not in town and i only heard about it from my mom a couple weeks ago but after reading Proverbs 24 I think the verse that captured my attention was
27.. Finish your outdoor work and get your fields ready; after that, build your house.
I thought to myself WOW such a strong nugget of wisdom.. when I thought about it i took it in a couple ways,
….plan carefully and acquire the means as you build your house. put in the work to build up nutrients to feed your body so that you can physically have the strength to build your house. If you build your house first putting aside your crops your going to be left starving with an empty house (people can life without a house, but not without proper nutrients)
… I think this can really be applied to life, tend to our field, our individual spiritual walk and relationship with Christ.. put in the work, time, and effort to nourish that precious relationship because God is the ultimate nutrients we need in order to live.. then work on building the house use that nourishment to build, relationships, communities, churches, etc..

verse 26 spoke to me, because it’s better to be honest than lie and you should be honest with people. I try to be honest with people and it’s feel good to honest than lie to them and i like this verse.
