Day 15 // People Builder

Proverbs 15

1 A gentle answer deflects anger,

but harsh words make tempers flare.

2 The tongue of the wise makes knowledge appealing,

but the mouth of a fool belches out foolishness.

3 The Lord is watching everywhere,

keeping his eye on both the evil and the good.

4 Gentle words are a tree of life;

a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.

5 Only a fool despises a parent’s discipline;

whoever learns from correction is wise.

6 There is treasure in the house of the godly,

but the earnings of the wicked bring trouble.

7 The lips of the wise give good advice;

the heart of a fool has none to give.

How can you be a “people builder” this week?

  • Keisha Womack

    First and foremost, I would like to thank Pastor Kerry and his staff for their continued support as I strive to find a deeper peace! Proverbs is a very powerful book! It reminds me how often our human intellect can block our many blessings and often get us off the “right” path. We must humble ourselves and always remember that God is in control as it is beautifully stated in Proverbs 15:31-33. “if you listen to constructive criticism, you will be at home among the wise. If you reject discipline, you only harm yourself; but if you listen to correction, you grow in understanding. Fear of the Lord, teaches wisdom; humility precedes honor.” I wish all of you a great day and may God work through us to make wise decisions!

    We all can be peacebuilder’s by sharing kind word’s, smile’s, touch’s, hug’s, compliment’s. The most simple thing’s can change a person’s outlook, day, or even their life.
    Peace building is so powerful, and so rewarding. Just wearing a big smile, and being Jesus’ hand’s and feet is truly a beautiful thing.

    Thanks again Pastor Kerry. I think to be a people builder I have to pray for God’s wisdom and grace. Be quick to listen, slow to anger, and slow to speak and when I do speak, think first, and be gentle with my words.

    “Gentle words are a tree of life.” How perfectly taught!

    I love verse 9 because the Lord says he loves those who pursue godliness. I do feel like it is a chase and a hunt and a constant “I want this; I will run after this” feeling. Just this past week, I had a strong feeling that I needed to go and pray WITH (and not just pray for) an old friend who lived all the way in Katy, which is about 45-50 minutes from my house. It took planning and coordination of childcare (and the humility to invite myself, in obedience to the call!) to go and pray with her for an hour on that Thursday evening, but the two of us felt the Lord’s presence in a powerful way during that prayer in our little secret time and place. The Lord is SO worth pursuing. I am humbled when I think of how he is pursuing me, too.

    As always, there are so many wise words in Proverbs we can all apply to our lives. You could easily get 60 or 90 days worth of devotions from this book.
