Day 14 // The Fool

Proverbs 14

1 A wise woman builds her home,

but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands.

2 Those who follow the right path fear the Lord;

those who take the wrong path despise him.

3 A fool’s proud talk becomes a rod that beats him,

but the words of the wise keep them safe.

4 Without oxen a stable stays clean,

but you need a strong ox for a large harvest.

5 An honest witness does not lie;

a false witness breathes lies.

6 A mocker seeks wisdom and never finds it,

but knowledge comes easily to those with understanding.

7 Stay away from fools,

for you won’t find knowledge on their lips.

    Ladies…verse 1 is for ALL of us. So many times, we get ourselves so busy doing things (even good things) that build us up personally but ‘tear down our house’. I have been so guilty of this before. Isn’t it interesting that the writer of proverbs SPECIFICALLY addresses this ‘woe’ to women!?

    Thanks, Kerry, for doing this for us every day. It is wonderful!

    1 A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands. 4 Without oxen a stable stays clean, but you need a strong ox for a large harvest. 29 People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness.

    Pastor Kerry, I have read Proverbs before but never understood it like I am now. Thank you.

    I love how verses 26 and 27 take us back to the beginning idea we heard in Proverbs – that awe of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Can we also think of this the opposite the way – that a lack of fear of the Lord is the beginning of foolishness? This passage seems to show that message.
    I am so grateful to be a part of this online P31 study. It is so rich in real wisdom.

    A fool has a hot temper. Lately I have become quick to anger. Please guide me to understanding Lord and let me control the anger so it does not control me. In Jesus name. Amen.
