Day 1 // Fear of the Lord

Proverbs 1

The Purpose of Proverbs

1 These are the proverbs of Solomon, David’s son, king of Israel.

2 Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline,

to help them understand the insights of the wise.

3 Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives,

to help them do what is right, just, and fair.

4 These proverbs will give insight to the simple,

knowledge and discernment to the young.

5 Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser.

Let those with understanding receive guidance

6 by exploring the meaning in these proverbs and parables,

the words of the wise and their riddles.

7 Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge,

but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

    v. 5 “A wise man will hear and increase learning. And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel.”
    v. 33 “And the complacency of fools will destroy them.”

Thank you father for a desire to seek wisdom, increase learning and to be intentional in seeking and do your will for my life. Please open my ears to wisdom’s calling every day.

This is a great way to reach so many believers… I am so pleased, and thankful, that God has lead the leaders of this church to have this P31 challenge…

i pray for wisdom almost everyday. Being a young and widowed mom im constantly hoping that i make the right decisions for myself and my child. i don’t feel like i have the strength sometimes to carry my family. But to praying revitalizes me and recharges my battery and bring a smile to my face and inside my heart that everyday i get closer to God and grow i am a little bit wiser :) AMEN!

  • Jenn B.

Such a great way to put it! i have been on the work out train for sometime now to keep in shape and to help relieve life’s daily stresses but what i what missing the whole time is that i also need to work out and exercise my spiritual growth!
    GOD BLESS!

I’m still feeling the blessings of the revelation I got from Pastor Kerry’s message yesterday about what it really means to have Christ IN me! I’m feeling grateful and empowered today in a new way! What struck me in Proverbs was: Come and listen to my counsel. I’ll share my heart with you and make you wise. God is IN us, and He wants to share His heart with us so we can make better decisions and live fuller lives! Awesome!

  • Ron

I see how wisdom will guide us and if we abide by it, it will protect our lives.

my kids and i are doing this together along with my sister and family in austin. we enjoyed john21. a great way get in a quick bible study each day.

I especially enjoyed the lead in by Pastor Kerry. I have never been able to understand (or accept) the verse, “Fear the Lord”. The simple explanation to be in awe of Him simply feels much more comforting.

Like Kathy, I was moved by the reference to last weekend’s sermon about Christ in us. What better way to experience Christ in us than to experience His wisdom through the words and ears of Solomon.

Wow. Boy do I feel convicted. I struggle so much trying to find and make time for quiet time everyday. I was just crying out to GOd before reading this, begging for forgiveness and asking for help. I complained that I alreay have to get up so early for work and although I set my alarm I can’t seem to get up earlier. Then I bust my butt all day and still don’t get everything done. Then I have a ton of things to do after work and am so exhausted and don’t want to give Him the worst of me. But the last few verses remind me that when I make the time for quiet time and Bible study, my day goes a heck of a lot smoother. I’m ruining my own self balance but not making it happen. It’s completely my fault and the only one who can fix it is me.

I was lead here today for a reason. I am so thankful for Pastor Shook that he continues to build the kingdom of God by challenging people like myself to be better than we were before. What a conviction~ Thanks and continue to keep me in your prayers!

I feel the same way at times. I know from experience when we focus on Him he makes our way light. Hang in there I will pray for you and you pray for me. Whatever 2 or more agree on shall be done in heaven. I pray that he makes your path clear and gives you wings of an eagle!
